Former NFL player Channing Crowder told Cam Newton that he respects what he has accomplished in the league but made it clear he doesn't feel Newton is still one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the NFL. Crowder, who retired from football a decade ago, invited Newton to The Pivot Podcast, where the two discussed many things.
Among things discussed was Newton still being a free agent. "If you think I couldn't be on somebody's team right now, you're a damn fool,'' Newton said on The Pivot Podcast. Crowder told Newton that he respects him but added the 2015 NFL MVP is past his prime.
“Cam?” Crowder questioned of the statement’s legitimacy. “You are big as ****. Bro, you are a defensive end playing quarterback. But right now, you are 33 years old. You done got old. [You’re saying] you’re one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world right now? Cam, I cannot accept that."
I love this convo. Channing Crowder was straight up with Cam Newton and Cam was more than happy to have a discussion.
I hope Cam Newton comes back and wins 10 Super Bowls, I love the guy, but reality is setting in for himself and fans alike I fear.
Crowder kept it honest with Newton on the podcast
Last season, Newton returned to the Panthers and his return to his first team didn't go quite well.
"I signed on Thursday. I played on Sunday,'' Newton said. "At what point did you think you was going to be successful? The next week, I started. That's still under 10 days of you being on the team. And you're still trying to learn the offense.
So before I sit up here and allow the narrative to be made that Cam ain't got it no more, Cam is taking full responsibility and saying Cam put himself in a f---ed-up situation, which then had a ricochet effect to people thinking [how they think of me].'
' After stating that he was in a "f----- up situation" with the Panthers, Newton said the same for the New England Patriots, where he played in 2020. "The New England experience was a f----- up situation,'' Newton said.
"I was still learning the offense seven to eight weeks into the season,'' It remains to be seen if Newton will get any offers before the new season begins.
