Browns QB Jacoby Brissett reveals his mindset with Deshaun Watson suspended

Jacoby Brissett says the NFL has always been the league of the "next man up" mindset and he is ready to step up with Deshaun Watson being suspended for the start of the season. This week, disciplinary officer Sue Robinson imposed a six-game ban on Watson for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

With Watson suspended, Brissett - who in the past started for three different teams - is likely to be the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback at the start of the new season. "Since I've been in this league it's been the next man up," Brissett said, per the NFL website.

"That was the case my rookie year, so that experience helps with not only the playing but with the mindset of understanding that you've got to be ready whenever your number is called. It feels good that you have that trust amongst the organization.

I'm excited for the opportunity."

The Brown confident in Brissett

Brissett has been in the NFL since 2016 and the Browns are his fourth team. In the past, Brissett won as a starting quarterback in the league and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has voiced some belief in the 29-year-old quarterback.

"He's been in some different positions already in his young career," Stefanski said. "He has a very good way about him. Very, very intelligent. Very good leader. Has the ability to make plays on the practice field, help in the meeting room.

Be accountable throughout the weight room. He just does all the right things." On Wednesday, it was announced the NFL was appealing the six-game suspension Watson was handed by disciplinary officer Robinson. If the NFL wins it appeal, Watson could miss more than just first six games of the season.

But the Browns were prepared for this scenario and that's why they signed Brissett this offseason. It remains to be seen if Brissett can help the Browns win games while Watson is suspended.
