Charvarius Ward called DeAndre Hopkins as "a steroid boy" following the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals Monday Night Football game. On Monday, the 49ers and Cardinals played against each other in Mexico Part as part of the NFL's international games program.
The 49ers absolutely dominated the Cardinals on each side of the ball as they ousted the Cardinals 38-10. Hopkins, who was covered by Ward, had nine catches on 12 targets as he finished the game with 91 yards but without a touchdown.
In the offseason, Hopkins was handed a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy.
Ward on Hopkins: That's steroid boy
“D Hop, he thinks he’s a tough guy. He thinks he still one of the best receivers in the league and he’s really not.
He was trying to talk noise and talk hard all game. We’re not scared of him. He thought we were scared of him. He tried to intimidate us, but forget him, we did our thing. We went out there and got a ‘dub’ and we did our job.
He was just yip-yapping all game, but we don’t care about that. We just wanted to win. He was getting locked up. He was doing some dirty things. He tried to clip me, he grabbed me by the throat. He grabbed my facemask on one play, so I don’t respect his game.
That’s steroid boy," Ward said on KNBR, as quoted on Pro Football Talk. The Cardinals scored a late first-half touchdown to cut the deficit to 14-10. But it didn't help them much since the 49ers absolutely dominated the second half and in the end won by a 38-10 score.
Following their latest win, the 49ers own a 6-4 record. This Sunday, the 49ers are hosting the New Orleans Saints. Going into the game, the 49ers are the favorite to win that game and expand their winning streak.
