Rob Gronkowski revealed he had conversations with the Buffalo Bills about joining them after Tom Brady retired. After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 2021 season ended, Brady announced his retirement and Gronkowski became a free agent.
In the end, Brady decided to un-retire but Gronkowski decided to end his career. Now, Gronkowski reveals he has kind of become a Bills fan and he would have probably been playing for them if he felt mentally ready to continue playing football.
“I’m kind of a Buffalo Bills fan now, again. Now that I’m not playing no more I’m like, ‘dang.’ And I thought about it, how cool that would be to play for the Buffalo Bills, I actually thought about it when Tom [Brady] retired this year I was like, ‘Alright,’ I didn’t really feel like playing football after this year and I was like, ‘Ahh, Tom retired.’ I was like, ‘I’m gonna check out some other teams.
I was actually in talks with the Buffalo Bills a little bit. They wanted me to come up there. It just wasn’t there, though. If my mindset was there, I would probably most likely be in Buffalo right now playing with the Bills," Gronkowski said on the New Heights podcast, per Sports Illustrated.
Could we see Gronkowski returning to football in 2023?
In 2019, Gronkowski announced his retirement from football. A year later, Gronkowski came out of retirement and joined the Buccaneers. After spending two seasons with the Buccaneers and winning one Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, Gronkowski retired for a second time.
Even though Gronkowski retired and it seems that this time he is indeed done with football, some still love to speculate about a potential Gronkowski comeback. Gronkowski, 33, is a four-time Super Bowl champion. Gronkowski is widely regarded as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. It remains to be seen if Gronkowski makes a surprise return to the NFL in 2023.
