Derek Carr's $40.4 million 'was an issue' in negotiations between Raiders, Saints

Derek Carr has informed the New Orleans Saints and all other teams that he won't accept any trades from the Las Vegas Raiders. Carr, whose 40.4 million becomes fully guaranteed three days after the Super Bowl, is now expected to be released by Raiders - per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

This week, the Raiders and Saints agreed on trade compensation for Carr. But now, Carr - who has a no-trade clause in his contract - plans to exercise his powers. "The Saints and Raiders had the framework of a trade in place for Derek Carr, but his contract — which would fully guarantee him $40.4 million as of 4 p.m.

ET Tuesday — was an issue. Carr’s no-trade clause gave him power to veto any deal and effectively force his release," Tom Pelissero of NFL Media tweeted.

Where will Carr sign up?

Even though Carr won't accept a trade to the Saints or any other team, there is still a chance he ends up in New Orleans.

Should Carr become a free agent, he would have a chance to negotiate a fresh new deal with any of his potential suitors. “I just want to win. There’s a lot of teams that want to win. I’m just looking for teams that have made that decision consistently, that they’ll continually choose to do whatever it takes to put a winning program out there.

And so, for me, I just wanna win a championship. That’s at the forefront of my mind. It’s not money. It’s not this; it’s not that. I just want to win. I’ve thrown for the yards. I have the records. I’ve done the Pro Bowls.

It’s fun, and I’m thankful for all of it. But, as you guys have known me, that’s not at all why I do it. I want to win a championship. So that’s on the forefront. That doesn’t guarantee wherever I go to we can automatically do it, but I’m just trying to find the place where I have the best chance possible," Carr said recently.
