49ers GM John Lynch: I sent Tom Brady a text after he retired, I'll leave it at that

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch cheekily revealed that he texted Tom Brady after the former seven-time Super Bowl champion announced his retirement from football. Brady, 45, grew up a 49ers fan and there were times when he was linked to the team he grew up supporting.
"I sent him a text when he retired. He was a teammate for about three weeks at one point (in 2008), so I sent him a text, just (saying) congratulations on one of the greatest careers that I've ever seen in any sport, and I wished him the best.
So, we'll leave it at that," Lynch said, per CBS Sports.
Brady signing with the 49ers highly unlikely to happen now
In 2020, the 49ers were reported as one of the teams where Brady could sign. In the end, Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This past January, there were reports suggesting that Brady could have an interest in playing for the 49ers in 2023. But those rumors were shut down on February 1st, when Brady announced his retirement. In his message, Brady underlined that he was "retired for good this time." "Good morning guys.
I'll get to the point right away. I'm retiring for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I'd just press record and let you guys know first. I won't be longwinded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year, so really thank you guys so much to every single one of you for supporting me.

My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors -- I could go on forever, there's too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn't change a thing. Love you all," Brady said in a video posted on Twitter.
