Darren Waller admits he was extremely surprised after hearing that the Las Vegas Raiders traded him to the New York Giants. Waller, who made his first Pro Bowl in 2020, signed a three-year extension with the Raiders in September.

But at the start of free agency, the Raiders decided to move on from Waller and send him to the Giants. Waller, 30, was mentally preparing himself for another season with the Raiders when his now former team traded him. "I did not see this coming.

I was getting ready to just do everything I could to make myself available for the Raiders and get ready for everything that was going to start in mid-April. It caught me off guard, but it's the nature of the business," Waller said, per the NFL website.

Waller vows to put himself in the best position to succeed

When Waller is on the field, he has been very productive in the last few years. But the problem is that Waller missed a notable number of games over the last two years.

In 2022, Waller was limited to just nine games. Now, there is a concern that Waller's injury issues will follow him in New York. "I believe wholeheartedly in myself, and I believe that through action and through consistent performance, Giants fans will believe as well.

They can have questions at this moment about my health. Those are legitimate concerns, but I'm somebody that I believe I've addressed those issues. I'm willing to come out here and to be the best I can be to be a weapon for this team, a tool that this team can use to get to that next level that they want to go to.

That's exactly what I'm going to do," Waller explained. Meanwhile, the Giants are having a big offseason. Previously, the Giants extended quarterback Daniel Jones and franchise tagged running back Saquon Barkley.
