New York Jets star cornerback Sauce Gardner thinks competing against Aaron Rodgers in practice will make him a better player. Gardner, the fourth overall pick of the 2022 NFL draft, was a stud during his college days and he won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award this past season.
Gardner is quickly establishing himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league as many believe the 22-year-old will be one of the best at his position for many more years. Now that Gardner is set to compete against one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, he believes he can learn a lot more about how the best quarterbacks think and act on the field.
Also, Gardner revealed Rodgers is willing to share some of his secrets.
Gardner: Rodgers' presence will help me
“I knew he was going to get me better, and by that I was just thinking of him making those tough throws that it’s going to be hard for me to intercept and break up.
But he was just telling me that he is going to be able to help me out [by] telling me how teams are going to try to attack me and the things that I can work on as a cornerback. He was telling me he has the secret gems he can give me.
Hearing that made me respect him even more. I wasn’t expecting that, but now I’m looking forward to sitting down and watching film and telling him what we’re trying to do and he can tell us what they’re trying to do on offense," Gardner said, as quoted on Pro Football Talk.
It has been nearly two weeks since the Jets completed a trade for Rodgers. Rodgers has gotten straight to the business and the Jets have said that the star quarterback is already making his presence felt around the team.
