Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen says Patrick Mahomes deserves to still be considered the best quarterback in the AFC. Over the last few seasons, Allen and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow have been putting up great numbers, which led to some putting those two in the league of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Mahomes.
But Mahomes has three Super Bowl appearances and two Super Bowl rings on his resume. On the other side, Allen has no Super Bowl appearances while Burrow fell short in his lone Super Bowl appearance. Now, Allen says he and Burrow first have to win a Super Bowl in order to be considered in the same league as Mahomes.
Allen: Mahomes is still the best
"Until me or [Burrow] or anybody else can win a Super Bowl, I think Pat's kind of the clear No 1 right now. He's been playing at such a high level for so long and he's got the rings to prove it," Allen said during a conversation on Kyle Brandt's Basement, per CBS Sports.
After seeing that Brandt put Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence in the sixth tier of the best AFC quarterbacks, Allen didn't agree with that observation. "I'm not the one to sit here and say who belongs where, but I do think that Tua and Trevor -- they played extremely well last year -- I think they're a little too low." Allen said.
Brandt also placed new New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the third tier. Allen also didn't agree with that, suggesting Rodgers probably deserves to be placed a little bit higher. "I think Aaron belongs a little higher," Allen said.
Meanwhile, the 2023 season could be very important for Allen. The Bills have been a strong force for the past few years but the problem is that they have had a hard time figuring out how to win in the playoffs. It remains to be seen if Allen can lead the Bills over the hump in 2023.
