Jadeveon Clowney is expressing a major interest to return to the Houston Texans in 2023. Clowney, 30, was the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft and spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the Texans. After one-year stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans, respectively, Clowney played for the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and 2022.
Clowney, who was named to the Pro Bowl in three consecutive seasons between 2016 and 2018, hasn't had the same success on the field since leaving the Texans. "All my family is here. Friends here. The guys I work out with can help me take care of my body a lot better being right up under them.
You never know. You never know what will happen. You never know what's in front of you," Clowney said, via CBS Sports.
Clowney on why he'd like to return to the Texans
The Texans had one of the worst records in the NFL last season, which landed them the second overall pick that they used to select talented quarterback CJ Stroud.
Also, the Texans selected talented defensive prospect Will Anderson Jr. as the third overall pick and also hired defensive mastermind DeMeco Ryans as their new head coach. "I see they putting the pieces together. I'm a big fan of their new head coach [DeMeco Ryans].
They've got some guys up front I think can go, Maliek [Collins] and they just got the rookie [Will Anderson] this year. It'll be a big thing to see what they do this year. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do. Especially since I'm [based] here.
I don't know. We'll see what happens," Clowney explained. Clowney's numbers haven't been really impressive over the last few years but the defensive end is confident he still has the game. "A lot. I'll show you. We'll see. There's a lot of guys I know that can't outdo me right now.
I won't talk about it, I don't like to toot my own horn, I just like to show up and show out," Clowney insisted. It remains to be seen if Clowney will reunite with the Texans in 2023.
