Patrick Mahomes admits it will probably be a bit weird not having Tom Brady in the NFL anymore but noted the league is in a great place with the level of talent it has at the quarterback spot. Brady, 45, retired from the NFL after 23 seasons.
During his career, Brady won seven Super Bowls - more than any other player in NFL history. Brady is widely considered one of the greatest players in NFL history, while Mahomes is currently widely regarded as the best quarterback in the league.
Earlier this year, Mahomes named Brady as the GOAT. But it is not a secret that Mahomes is hoping to beat Brady's seven Super Bowl rings and one day be regarded as the GOAT.
Mahomes on the NFL without Brady
"It’s definitely going to be different.
At the end of the day, you expected his team to be there at the end of the season every year. You were striving to be better and continue to make your team better so that you were able to win that game against him. I think the NFL’s in a great place though.
I don’t know how, but all the quarterbacks that have been developed over the last few years, it’s like every single year it’s like two to three, four guys are coming in, they’re becoming great players in this league.
You’ve got to continue to push, man. There’s great quarterbacks throughout both conferences, AFC, NFC, and you can see them in college football already. So I just continue to push to get better. Luckily, I’ve become one of the older guys even though I’m still young.
So I’m going to try to keep pushing myself to be just barely one step ahead of these guys," Mahomes told Complex. Mahomes has two wins and one loss in his three Super Bowl appearances. Mahomes' lone Super Bowl loss came in 2021 February, when his Kansas City Chiefs were ousted by the Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
