Patrick Mahomes reveals how really coach Andy Reid impacted his career

Patrick Mahomes says head coach Andy Reid has "meant the world to me" and highlighted coach Reid has played a key part in his development and early success. When the Kansas City Chiefs took Mahomes at No 10 in the 2017 NFL draft, coach Reid had a vision for the Texas Tech product.

In 2018, Mahomes became the Chiefs' starting quarterback and the rest is already history. In each of his first five seasons as a starter, Mahomes has guided the Chiefs to at least the AFC Championships Game. In the last five seasons, the Chiefs made the Super Bowl three times and twice went all the way.

Mahomes is now widely considered the best quarterback in the game and the general expectation is that Mahomes and Reid will go down as one of the greatest coach/player duos in NFL history.

Mahomes on the role coach Reid played in his success

“He’s meant the world to me.

He’s just the best. He’s the best coach, obviously, one of the best coaches of all time, but he’s just one of the best people of all time. He’s learned how to get the most out of me every day. He doesn’t let me be satisfied with where I’m at.

He teaches me a ton. Not only the quarterback position, but how to be a leader and how to be a great dad and how to be a great husband. He lets me be who I am every single day. I think if I’d have went to some other places, I would’ve had to learn how to play the quarterback position a different way, and he just lets me play the quarterback position the way that I want to play it.

I think that’s what’s made me such a different type of quarterback in this league," Mahomes told Rob Maaddi on the AP Pro Football Podcast, via Pro Football Talk.
