The New Jersey Devils won 5-4 over the Arizona Coyotes. Timo Meier was one of the better players and scored a goal on his debut. Devils forward Nico Hischier commented on his teammate's performance; "It's not easy for him to come in here.
[It's a] different system and he's been out a couple of games, but he did really well,
" -Nico Hischier said, as quoted by nhl.com "I mean, he scored a goal. That's exactly what he does, so it's good to see him having the New Jersey jersey on." Meier is aware that the team could have done better.Victory is the most important thing. "It wasn't pretty but we got it done," Meier said. Devils coach Lindy Ruff believes that his team could have used the momentum in many situations. "We mismanaged the puck a couple of times and missed a lot of great opportunities to lengthen the lead and let [Arizona] hang around,"-Lindy Ruff said.
"But we've been a good overtime team (10-3) and we found a way to get the two points."
Arizona coach Andre Tourigny reacted
Arizona coach Andre Tourigny is not satisfied with the second period. "We started the first period not right," -Andre Tourigny said.
"The second period, we didn't play well. We didn't fight the way we can fight, we didn't play fast the way we can. It was not our team. ... In the third it was. We played fast, we played with pace, we were in their face. ... We played a good team.
They made plays." McBain is disappointed and thinks they could have won. "Our game wasn't how we wanted to play. It was a tough, tough game at first," McBain said. "But we bounced back and it's unfortunate we didn't get the results we wanted." Timo Meier thinks he had an excellent debut.
"[I had] a lot of energy to go out there and play," Meier said. "I haven't played in a bit so I tried to keep it simple. The puck just followed me in front off the rebound and, yeah, it's obviously a great way to start."
