The group stage of the World Cup in Qatar ended last night, and the round of 16 matches begins today. The first players to take the field will be football players from the Netherlands and the United States of America. The Dutch, one would say, routinely won first place in Group A with two wins and one draw.
As impressive as their defense was, the Americans are much more dangerous in attack than their rivals in the group, so it will be interesting to see how Louis van Gaal's team will cope with the fast American attackers if they are to win the game today.
With two wins and two draws, and a goal difference of 2:1, the Americans finished second in their group B with one win and two draws. By making it to the round of 16 they achieved their main objective, and everything they accomplish in the knockout phase will be an added bonus.
As far as the injuries are concerned, there are a number of them, but one of them stands out, and that is the point guard who is a member of the USA Sargent team, who is suffering from problems in his ankle joint, making his performance questionable.
Argentina and Australia will take to the field. After suffering a shocking defeat against Saudi Arabia in the group stage of the tournament, the Argentinians were able to bounce back in time, defeating Mexico and Poland respectively, and advanced to the quarter-finals and secured first place in their group.
The Argentinians are playing better as the tournament progresses, and Messi and his teammates couldn't have faced a better opponent than Australia in the round of 16, and the South American selection is expected to pass easily.
Australia created a sensation in Group D and took second place with two wins and one loss and will be satisfied with the result achieved in Qatar no matter how tonight's duel ends. Argentina star Di Maria is the only one with a minor injury, but he is expected to play from the first minute.
Schedule of today's matches:
