Bayern Munich managed to win the title after defeating Koln. Borussia Dortmund had everything in their hands, but in the end, they failed to beat Mainz and thus win the title. Thomas Tuchel won his first Bundesliga title. However, Bayern was also close to losing the title.
Jamal Musiala's goal in the 89th minute ensured Bayern a new title. Thomas Tuchel had something to say after all: "Today we had the last shot and the last answer to all the questions with Jamal [Musiala]. We'll take it, but it was a crazy, crazy afternoon.
When Lerory [Sane] couldn't finish his chance, I thought the match would sum up the entire phase I've been in charge here, and perhaps the entire season. We showed a reaction though today, and Jamal scored his screamer. It's incredible."- he said, as quoted by bundesliga.com Thomas Müller knew that this was not the season Bayern Munich wanted.
It looked like they would lose the title, but they showed team spirit and passion, and in the end, they succeeded in their goal.
"It's incredible to have experienced a championship like that. I think everyone interested in football has an underlying feeling that we didn't deserve it.
I want to be open about it. We all know the second half of the season was chaotic on and off the pitch, but this moment is incredible for the boys. It's truly awesome. You have to greatly respect the way Dortmund performed over the second half of the season.
I'm a little bit sorry right now for a lot of people I know. As a sportsman, I wanted to win it, though."
Jamal Musiala
Jamal Musiala, who is also the hero of this match, was delighted that he managed to lift the title. The young Englishman once again showed how important he is to his team.
In the crucial moment of the match, he took the ball and brilliantly shoots into the goalkeeper's left corner. That was enough for a 1:2 victory. "It’s definitely an amazing feeling. After our struggles this season, to actually win the league is amazing.
It was an incredible moment. I didn't think too much about it, I just celebrated it. It took at least a minute until I checked it. I had to give everything, we had nothing to lose. It wasn't a good season for us, we know that, of course. We are extremely happy to have won the title, though. We are going to really celebrate now."
