The Formula 1 world has seen numerous legends throughout its rich history. Yet, it appears we might be witnessing the birth of another, in the shape of the Dutch powerhouse Max Verstappen. Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner, certainly seems to think so, likening the 26-year-old to some of the sport's greatest names.

Joining the Pantheon of F1 Legends

Since the outset of the season in Bahrain, Verstappen's consistent performance led the championship. His recent second-place finish in the Qatar Sprint sealed his third consecutive drivers' title, positioning him among the elite in the sport's annals.

Speaking in the glow of Saturday's celebrations, Horner shared his emotions with Sky Sports, "It’s been by far the most dominant [season Red Bull have had]... to see Max join some of the great names, [Jack] Brabham, [Ayrton] Senna, [Niki] Lauda, Sir Jackie Stewart.

He is in that bracket now”. But it isn’t just Verstappen's championship titles that elicit such praise. Horner highlights his exceptional driving throughout the year, describing it as "out of this world". Such dominance isn't solely a product of individual brilliance.

As Horner points out, it's also about team spirit and unity, from those on the track to the unsung heroes behind the scenes.

More Than Just Skill: A Passionate Heart

While Verstappen's raw driving ability is clear to anyone watching, it's his hunger, passion, and sheer determination that truly astound his team principal.

Horner attests, “He is up there with the very, very best, some of the greatest this sport has seen...this season has just surpassed anything we’ve ever seen." Drawing comparisons to the team's previous partnership with Sebastian Vettel, Horner believes Verstappen has propelled the team to even greater heights.

And to think, at just 26, the Dutchman's potential seems limitless. As Horner poignantly puts it, “I think he’s still going to get better, evolve, and grow as a driver”. But when probed about the single most mind-blowing characteristic Verstappen brings to the table, Horner was unequivocal: “The self-belief, the self-confidence he has in himself to go out and deliver... His ability to be at one with the car, and the confidence in himself, is absolutely standout”.
