Roger Federer is ready to come back to the court. The former world number one has been off the circuit for more than a year: the last match played by the Swiss champion dates back to Wimbledon 2021. After passing the first week of the English Grand Slam, the winner of eight titles at the All England Club surrendered in the quarter-finals against Hubert Hurkacz.
The defeat against the Polish tennis player is the last match of 2021, as well as the last appearance on the tennis courts. After the stop, where the twenty-time Grand Slam champion has used to recover from the physical problems accused in recent years, however, it seems that Roger Federer is ready to return.
The first leg of the return would be the Laver Cup: in the weekend from 23 to 25 September, Roger Federer is busy with the magical team Europe, where he will play alongside Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. After the event he conceived, the Swiss returned to an ATP circuit tournament: in particular, he decided to return home.
Roger Federer: here is the official date of the come back
It is official, in fact, that Roger Federer will play in Basel: the 500 tournament will be played from 22 to 30 October. The Swiss, therefore, will be present in his hometown, where he will have to defend the title: the victory of 2020 is the last of the tournament, which has been stopped for two years due to the Covid pandemic.
Following King Roger there are other young stars, who have chosen Basel instead of Vienna, another 500 tournament that takes place that week. In fact, the two young exponents of tennis have been confirmed: the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and the blue Lorenzo Musetti.
The latter would, for now, be the only Italian tennis player present in Federer's home tournament. Also present were the finalist of Roland Garros, Casper Ruud, and the Canadian number one, Felix Auger-Aliassime. The confirmed list closes for now the wild card Dominic Stricker: another young tennis player, who has received an invitation for the tournament that is held in his country of birth, namely Switzerland.
