Novak Djokovic: "Every tournament is important at this stage of my career"

Novak Djokovic wanted to reach Turin by lifting the Rolex Paris Masters trophy to the sky for the seventh time. The Serbian champion, however, found on the way a Holger Rune in great shape. There are two moments that changed the game and gave the Dane confidence.

The first came at the start of the second set, when the Belgrade had three consecutive break points and made two serious free mistakes. The second, on the other hand, materialized in the decisive set and saw Djokovic badly lose his serve at 3-1 after breaking his rival's serve.

Rune thus conquered his first Masters 1000 and the tenth position in the world ranking. It was since 2007 that two such young players, Rune and Carlos Alcaraz, had not occupied the top 10 at the same time. Last time, Djokovic and Andy Murray himself achieved the feat.

Djokovic: "Finals? Every tournament is important right now"

Djokovic, in the press conference, analyzed the play of Alcaraz and Rune: "Rune and Alcaraz are similar in terms of physicality. They both train hard and decide many hours of work on this sport.

They defend extremely well. Rune has the better reverse of the two; Alcaraz the obverse. But they are improving all those shots that are not as good as the others. When I say 'they are not better than' it means that there is not a big difference.

They have incredible shots, both with the forehand and with the backhand. They are really complete players for only being 19 years old. It is quite impressive. Even their energy on the pitch: they always try to motivate themselves and be mentally present."

Djokovic finally focused on the ATP Finals in Turin, where he will try to end the season in the best possible way: "Every tournament is important at this stage of my career. Wherever you play, I try to win. It is not a secret.

This is my mentality and it will be my approach to Turin. I feel very good on the pitch. I think I'm playing great tennis. Of course I'm disappointed with today's defeat, but I came very close. Few points decided the outcome of the match.

But the level of tennis I am expressing is high and I have a good chance of winning. Every match is like a final in that tournament, there are no easy games. You have to be fit and fresh. The good thing is that you have a day off between games in the group stage, so you have time to recover.

Last year I played there and expressed a good level. I have reached the semifinal. So I know the conditions are different. The ball travels more due to the altitude. The court is fast enough and you need to serve well. I will arrive a few days earlier to train and I hope to be at my best."
