WTA Finals: the new champion is Caroline Garcia!

Caroline Garcia needed the playoffs against Daria Kasatkina to get the pass for the semifinals of the WTA Finals 2022, where she had to beat the player who together with Iga Swiatek had closed the group with full points. She could only win the tournament.

Caroline Garcia at the end of an extraordinary ride becomes the new champion of the women's Tour. The French tennis player closes after 101 minutes of play at 7-6 (4) 6-4, catches the most prestigious title in her career and obviously also touches up the best ranking.

For the first time she will sit on the fourth box of the ranking. Nothing to do for Aryna Sabalenka, who concedes something near the first finish line and who cannot find sufficiently good weapons in the second. The first set with the serve that completely regulates the balance and the French tennis player who even closes with ten aces.

Sabalenka, who in parallel with the second ball wins substantially 9 points out of 10, goes out in the decisive game. She goes, yes, to 2-1, but she loses the next five points and basically only has time to make the passive acceptable.

A break makes the difference: Garcia wins and becomes four of the world

The break that decides the game comes at the start of the second set. And obviously Garcia places it. The French tennis player, who keeps all the batting rounds in an extraordinarily orderly manner, risks something only near the finish line (at 5-4) but she keeps her nerve at 30-30 and at the first useful opportunity she closes the matter.

Second French success in the WTA Finals since 2005 after that of Amelie Mauresmo. Garcia, world number seventy-five in early August, closes the season in the sweetest of ways, becomes the eighth different player to win the year-end Master in the last eight years and puts an end to Sabalenka's dream.

This is the greatest result in the Frenhwoman's career. Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova won the doubles final. Battles in the final act Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, with the Russian and the Belgian even recovering a 2-7 disadvantage in the super tie break of the third set.
