Rafael Nadal: "Novak Djokovic is my biggest rival"

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will play the ATP Finals 2022 in Turin. Due to the decision not to vaccinate against the Serbian's Covid19 and given the physical problems of the Spaniard that have afflicted him again this season, few are the tournaments that have played both.

After the direct clash in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, won by the reigning champion, the dream was to see them in the Wimbledon final: even in that case, however, the number two of Spain had to retire before the semifinal against Kyrgios.

After all these long-distance challenges, now the two meet again: both will be part of the Finals tournament, staged in Turin. On the occasion of the great end-of-season event, the winner of twenty-two Grand Slam titles praised his Serbian colleague, choosing him as his greatest rival.

Rafael Nadal: "Novak Djokovic is my biggest rival"

Nadal explained: "My biggest rival is Novak Djokovic. After all, he is the closest one for the number of Grand Slams, with 21; but also for all the times we face each other, for our history.

Of all the active players, my rival the most dangerous is, without a doubt, Novak." The world number two, who returns to Italy, but not in his best stage, the clay-courts in Rome, then added: "As soon as he landed on Italian hard-courts, the Spanish tennis player spoke to the ATP microphones about the Finals: one of the few tournaments missing from his bulletin board, with two finals lost in 2010 and 2013.

"It is always great news to play the last event of the year. This means that you have had a great season, so I am thrilled. Italy is a country very close to me. Being in Turin for the first time in my life is a new experience; therefore, I am very happy for that and I am looking forward to seeing the stadium and the fans. I'll do my best as always." In a week, both will pay on Turin hard-courts.
