Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open final: It brings back memories

Stefanos Tsitsipas will play in the final of the Australian Open after a great victory against Karen Khachanov 3:1. It will be interesting to find out the name of his opponent; Novak Djokovic or Tommy Paul? Tsitsipas was happy after the match and recalled moments from his childhood when he cheered next to the TV.

"I first watched Marcos [Baghdatis] do it years ago, playing in the final on this court [in 2008], and I dreamed of doing that one day, against the best players in the world,” said Tsitsipas, as quoted by eurosport.com “I’m happy with the fight I put up, it brings back memories of when I was a kid and cheering at the TV.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go his way, but he’s always in our hearts and will forever be one of my favourite players."

The Greek showed his qualities in the best way. He thinks that maybe he could have done better in the third set, but in the end, victory is what is most important.

“I thought of how hard I’ve worked to get to this position. I wasn’t able to [seal the match] in the third set, but I was extremely close. If you stick around, dedicate yourself even more, it pays off well.

Having that ambience in the background, when you’re hitting the ball well, it’s so rewarding”. Tsitsipas is aware of the opportunity he currently has and hopes that he will be able to take advantage of his chance.

Many believe that Djokovic is his opponent, and this is exactly the reason why we have to watch the match between Djokovic and Paul. This final could be one of the best. Djokovic has a huge motive to win because of the Grand Slams but also the incident surrounding the vaccine, while on the other hand, Tsitsipas is looking for his first Grand Slam. We expect an exciting finale with many great moments.
