Amelie Mauresmo: "It's hard to imagine Roland Garros without Rafael Nadal"

From the Australian Open, with a defeat in the second round, of Rafael Nadal on a tennis court there is no trace. The messages of the Spaniard who withdraws from the tournaments in which he signed up continue: nothing on hard courts and above all no events on red clay.

Package in Monte-Carlo, package in Barcelona, package in Madrid. He is missing two important events, the last two stages where he can make his comeback: Rome and above all Paris, for the defense of the title at the Roland Garros.

His presence is also a great hope for Amelie Mauresmo. "It is obviously a possibility for him not to be able to come here to Roland Garros. But the one thing I know for sure is that if there's one tournament he doesn't want to miss, it's this one.

There are still five weeks until the main draw. I am still hopeful and will keep my fingers crossed," said the former world number one and current director of the French Open said in an interview with BBC Sports. The only certainty we have about Rafael Nadal is that returning to the court is becoming increasingly difficult.

The date of his return slips more and more. Therefore, there is the possibility that the Spanish tennis player will miss the Slam tournament that he has won 14 times. A possibility that Mauresmo wants to chase away, because it's not Roland Garros without Rafa Nadal at the starting line.

"It will be difficult [to imagine Roland Garros without him]. It would be difficult if he didn't come, to be honest. It's so much a part of the tournament's history over the last nearly 20 years, it would be sad. But I am a positive person; therefore, I hope that things go better for him," added the former world number one.

Fewer doubts, but in any case suspicions also open about the presence of Novak Djokovic in Paris: the tennis player from Belgrade withdrew from the Madrid tournament. Paris could be the capital for the fight at the 23rd Slam for the two: will the fight take place?
