Kyrgios: "I will propose to Novak Djokovic to play doubles together"

One of the few players who has publicly defended Novak Djokovic over the past few weeks has been Nick Kyrgios. The Australian had had some arguments in the past with the Serbian, but this time he did not like the treatment that the Australian government has reserved for the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

These are words that Kyrgios used to support Djokovic: "We know the media likes to create shit storms, with my story and everything that happens with Novak. I am quite ashamed as an Australian athlete who saw what this guy did for us and for the sport.

I just don't think it's correct how they're treating it, but the media love to do this, they love to share. Premier Hawke said he is a threat to our borders. He is not, however. He was only here to play tennis, he didn't bother anyone.

I got vaccinated for others and for my mother's health, but I think the way the Djokovic affair was handled was wrong. Despite all the headlines, he is still one of our greatest champions and, in the end, he is human. We have to do better."

Kyrgios' proposal to Novak Djokovic

The Australian made his debut in the first Grand Slam of the year and gave a great show on the pitch.

Kyrgios in fact delighted the audience with some spectacular plays and beat Liam Broady in three sets. In the second round, the tennis world will be able to witness the super match between Daniil Medvedev and Kyrgios. When questioned during the press conference on the Djokovic case, the 26-year-old made an interesting proposal.

Kyrgios explained: "Novak and I have had differences in the past, but I defended him because I thought it was the right thing to do. I would have done the same with any other player. In any case, it is evident that a kind of brotherhood has arisen between us. I think I will propose to Novak to play doubles together in some tournament."
