Who are the parents of Leylah Fernandez?

Leylah Fernandez is now one of the most promising players on the WTA Tour but who are her parents? Fernandez, 19, put up an astonishing run at the US Open to make her maiden Grand Slam final. In the final, Fernandez was beaten in straigh sets by Emma Raducanu.

Fernandez's dad has had a big influence on her career since he has been coaching her from the beginning. Fernandez's dad, Jorge, was born in Ecuador but moved to Canada when he was just 4. He was a professional football who represented Ecuador in international games.

On the other side, Fernandez's mother, Irene, comes from a Philippine family but was born and grew up in Canada.

Fernandez fell just short of winning the US Open

After losing in the US Open final, Fernandez admitted it would take her a lot of time to overcome the loss.

"Well, right now it has sunk in. I am still disappointed. I think this loss, I'm going to carry it for a very long time. I think it will motivate me to do better in training, better for the next opportunity I get," Fernandez said after the US Open final.

"But, no, I'm very happy with myself, with the way I competed, and the play I played, the way I acted on court the past two weeks. I've improved a lot not only tennis-wise but emotionally and mentally. "I'm happy. Next year hopefully it will be just as good." Fernandez returned to Grand Slam action this week but it didn't go well as she suffered a shock loss to Maddison Inglis in the Australian Open first round.

"This is my first [Grand Slam] main-draw win, I had thought of that moment for a long time," said Inglis after beating Fernandez. "It was just pure happiness. I was so happy. I saw the ball go out and I looked at my box. It was an amazing moment.

I'm really so happy I could have it here in Melbourne with all my friends and family there. It was incredible. Really lucky."
