Five times the match between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov was canceled. For many years, it was one of the most anticipated and potentially most exciting matches the UFC could offer at the time, but we never welcomed it.

Khabib Nurmagomedov eventually retired before the match ever took place, and Tony Ferguson is still an active fighter, but far from his best days. Although Khabib does not want to return to the cage because he made a promise to his mother, many believe that the time will come when he will change his mind.

The 38-year-old Ferguson doesn't have much time to wait, so he came up with an interesting idea that could finally witness a kind of competition between him and Khabib. It would not be a fight, but two fighters would be in the role of coaches as part of the "The Ultimate Fighter" show.

This is a really interesting proposal from "El Cucucy". "I believe that when his dad [Khabib’s] said we were supposed to compete, I believe that. I would love to be able to coach against him in The Ultimate Fighter, how about that? You know, best man wins on the team.

I guarantee my coaching is a lot better than yours, Khabib. Not a lot of people understand that”. Ferguson said in a conciliatory tone, visiting the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Khabib Nurmagomedov's answer did not have to wait long, and it seems that the retired Dagestani is open to this solution, but also to other forms of cooperation with Ferguson.

Khabib, 33, responded by tweeting:

“Tony I like the idea about TUF, call your bosses and let them make an offer. But if they don’t have ideas, I myself will offer you a deal on the @EagleFightClub platform, we doing some business here you know”.

Nurmagomed said on Twitter. Khabib's promotion of Eagle FC is growing and this weekend they will have their third event on American soil this year. Former UFC fighters, as well as young upcoming Dagestani hopes, are currently the backbone of Khabib’s promotion.

An acquisition like Tony Ferguson would be a big deal for Khabib, and then the two of them would get a lot more freedom around additional projects in which they could participate together. It's hard to expect Ferguson to agree to this, as "El Cucuy" still believes he can win the UFC lightweight belt.
