One of the biggest MMA surprises of the past calendar year happened at the very end of the year, at the UFC 269 event. Julianna Pena defeated Amanda Nunes in the second round by submitting her second UFC bantamweight title.
Until that match, Nunes was in a series of 12 consecutive victories, and she suffered her last defeat in 2014. The Brazilian sovereignly bore the epithet of the best MMA fighter of all time, but Pena damaged her legacy. If we take into account how Pena came to victory relatively easily, the surprise is even bigger.
The promotion, despite the convincing defeat of Amanda Nunes, decided to arrange an instant rematch. Pena and Nunes are currently playing the role of coaches in "The Ultimate Fighter", and their rematch has been given an official date.
Pena speaks on a certain aspect of Nunes' personality.
"I really thought that I was high maintenance, like the most high maintenance, like no one gets more high maintenance than me. Right? I’m a diva! Then I experienced the things that Amanda was doing," Pena said on the Morning Kombat podcast last month.
"My goodness, wow! I didn’t think that." On July 30 (the seventh month) in Dallas, these two fighters will fight, and their rematch will also be the main fight of the evening at the UFC 270 event. It will be one of two major UFC events in the seventh month, and several great matches have already been announced for the event.
Magomed Ankalaev and Anthony Smith will compete in the light heavyweight division, and Derrick Lewis and Sergei Pavlovich in the heavyweight division. Luke Rockhold should also return to performances, and his opponent will be Paulo Costa.
