UFC Confirms: Charles Oliveira Will Appear At UFC 280

A great fight for the lightweight champion awaits us this fall in Abu Dhabi. Ever since the middle of the fifth month and Oliveira's win against Justin Gaethje, there has been speculation as to who the Brazilian's next title opponent would be.

As a reminder, "Do Bronx" lost his belt due to falling on the scale, but he managed to defeat Gaethje, and thus the UFC's lightweight division was left without a champion. Oliveira emphasized that he wants to fight Conor McGregor, and for a while, the UFC pushed the narrative that Islam Makhachev must defeat Beneil Dariush before he deserves a title shot.

As time went on, there was increasing pressure on the UFC to match Makhachev and Oliveira, because a better opponent for Oliveira was simply not in sight. During the UFC on ABC 3 event that is currently taking place, it was confirmed that Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira will fight for the title of lightweight champion.

The announcement

It was immediately announced at which event we will watch this great match.

It will be the UFC 280 event held in Abu Dhabi. Oliveira thus did not get Conor McGregor as an opponent, and the match against Islam will not take place in Brazil as Oliveira wished. The event in Brazil should take place at the end of this year or early next year, and Oliveira can theoretically appear at that event as well, depending on how he does in the match against Islam Makhachev.

Dana White said: "We tried to make that other, the Dariush fight, [he] broke his ankle... that fight [Oliveira vs. Makhachev] makes sense in Abu Dhabi. Everybody wanted to do it, I think everybody wanted to see it, so here we are." In any case, this is one of the best and most exciting matches that the UFC has been able to announce at this time.

Oliveira is on an 11-fight winning streak, while Makhachev has won 10 in a row. Stylistically, it is more than an interesting match and now we can hope that both will stay healthy until October 22 (the tenth month).
