UFC 279 bonuses: Nate Diaz leaves with $50000, Chimaev without a bonus

The UFC 279 event ended with a big victory for Nate Diaz and his farewell to the UFC. In the fourth round, Diaz finished Tony Ferguson with a submission (guillotine), and the UFC additionally rewarded him for that effort. Diaz is one of a total of four bonus winners for the best performance at last night's UFC 279 event.

It is Nate's 17th bonus in his entire UFC career (27 matches), and thus he remains in third place behind Charles Oliveira and Donald Cerrone, who has been awarded 18 times. Khamzat Chimaev was not awarded a bonus for his hurricane performance against Kevin Holland, but it is probably some kind of punishment from the UFC for the big fall on the scales.

Chimaev was supposed to fight Diaz, but the drop in the scales led to changes on the fight card. The remaining three awarded bonuses in the amount of 50 thousand dollars went to Irene Aldana, Johnny Walker, and Jailton Almeida.

Irene Aldana recorded the victory by knockout in the third round, and it is a really unusual move that finished Macy Chiasson. Aldana was in the bottom position on the ground, and Chiasson rose to her feet. Aldana hit Chiasson straight in the liver with an upkick and Chiasson could not continue the match after that.

Aldana deservedly took the bonus because no one in the UFC has ever won with an "upkick" to the opponent's body. For the fourth time in her career, Aldana took a bonus. Jailton Almeida gave a great performance against Anton Turkalj from the first to the last second.

A total of three knockdowns were recorded by the Brazilian, and he finished the fight with a "submission" (RNC) at the end of the first round. This is his first bonus in his third UFC appearance. Johnny Walker returned to victory after nearly two years and celebrated over Ryan Spann.

The Brazilian choked Cutelaba into submission in the first round, earning him his fourth UFC bonus. Walker won three bonuses in his first three appearances, but after that, he went on a black streak. No one won the bonus for the best fight of the night.
