Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker open to train with each other

There is almost no top fighter at the top of the welterweight and middleweight division that Khamzat Chimaev hasn't called out at least once. Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira, Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, Leon Edwards, these are all fighters that Chimaev called out, but one name would always stay out of his roll calls.

It's about Robert Whittaker, the second-best middleweight fighter in the world. Whittaker is better than absolutely all challengers within the middleweight division, but Israel Adesanya is an unsolvable enigma. It's not a shame to be worse than a fighter like Izzy, and even Whittaker himself doesn't give up his desire to defeat Adesanya once.

Exactly Whittaker could find himself in the path of Khamzat Chimaev when the Chechen-Swedish fighter decides to start a campaign to the top of that category. However, it seems that Chimaev would prefer to fight some other fighters.

After Chimaev's victory over Kevin Holland last weekend, Khamzat was also asked about Robert Whittaker when asked by journalists about his next potential opponent. Chimaev explained that he would rather train with the Reaper.

“I like that guy, so I don’t want to fight good guys,” Chimaev told reporters including MMA Junkie at the post-fight news conference. “I need some bad guys, so I want to fight some bad guy, you know? And don’t feel sorry for that.

“I want to train with that guy. He’s really good, like one of the best guys in the world. I was watching his fight. … I’m a big fan, so I watch all things. I watch how he trains, and all these things. A lot of guys want to fight me, so Robert never said something bad about me.

There’s a lot of guys talking sh*t about me. I’m gonna go take their heads off, you know? So, we’ll see”.

Whittaker responded to Khamzat's statements

“I heard what Khamzat said about wanting to fight bad guys and I can get behind that,” Whittaker said.

“If he wants to train together, I want to train together and we can go hunt bad guys together. “I think it will be a lot of fun, and we can run a muck on a lot of people”. “I’d like to see Chimaev fight Israel, just because, stylistically, there are so many different variables in play that it makes it interesting for me.

Plus, I’ll be able to sic my new friend Chimaev on two guys that I want to beat up”. Khamzat seems to have found another friend in the middleweight division after being on very good terms with Darren Till for some time.

However, it is difficult to expect that these two will train together. Whittaker does his training in Australia, while Chimaev trains in Sweden. The question is whether any of them want to agree to such a big change.
