Kevin Holland announces retirement on his Instagram account

It looks like another MMA career could be coming to an end within 2022. Jose Aldo, Luke Rockhold, Donald Cerrone, Joanna Jedrzejczyk are just some of the big names who have left the sport this calendar year, and Kevin Holland is now giving hints of his retirement from the sport.

The 29-year-old American middle and welterweight fighter has 32 professional appearances behind him (23-8, 1 NC, 10-5 UFC), and has been performing under the auspices of the UFC since 2018. He made his last appearance less than two weeks ago, and Khamzat Chimaev easily defeated him at the UFC 279 event.

It took two minutes and 13 seconds for Chimaev to force Kevin to submit by "D'Arce choke" With that, Chimaev ended Holland's streak of two consecutive victories, and although Holland did not mention retirement immediately after the match, the situation is somewhat different from today.

“Had a good run 30 in a little over a month got paid I’m out,” he wrote in a quote graphic on his Instagram on Thursday morning. “Next career choice??”, Holland posted on his Instagram profile.

Instagram post

Kevin also shared two Instagram stories in which he mentions retiring before his 30th birthday and opening a car club as his biggest goal.

Everyone who follows Holland's character and work will take these announcements with a large dose of the reserve, because Holland is a known prankster or, in modern terms, a "troll" So, these posts on Instagram should not be interpreted as his definitive withdrawal yet, but the possibility certainly exists.

If Kevin officially retires, surely the UFC leaders will inform us about it - As for his 30th birthday, Holland should celebrate it on November 5th (11th month). It would be a shame if such an exciting fighter retires at the age of 30, but if the desire is gone, there is no point in continuing.

It remains to be seen if Holland will confirm the withdrawal or if he will follow up with a post saying that he was just joking with his fans.
