Since he retired, Khabib Nurmagoemdov threw himself into coaching waters where, as in his fighting career, he achieved great success. He helps Islam Makhachev, Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov, but his involvement with Makhachev is currently in the greatest focus of the public, because next weekend he will attack the vacant position of lightweight champion, and his opponent is Charles Oliveira.
Before he retired, "The Eagle" was already training fighters.
It is known that Khabib is now one of the most recognizable faces in the AKA gym, and together with head coach Javier Mendez, he helps fighters. Mendez even said that Khabib is on his way to becoming the best trainer of all time: “He’s been coaching forever,” Mendez said on the UFC Unfiltered podcast.
“Even when he was fighting, he was coaching. He’d be sparring through these five rounds and all of a sudden he’d be sitting there with us coaching the guys. He’s been doing that forever. His father had trained him from such a young age to take the responsibility over – as a fighter, as a coach – and he’s taking over his father’s footsteps.
“He’s learned from me, he’s learned from his father – mostly his father. But to me, he’s on track – in my opinion because of his age, what he’s doing, the camp I see, the fighters he has – he’s on track to being the greatest coach of all time, in my opinion.
I see it. I see the writing on the wall”. In addition to working with his organization Eagle FC, Khabib is also intensively involved in coaching. At UFC 280, Islam Makhachev, Belal Muhammad and Zubair Tukhugov will be in the corner, and if Makhachev wins the belt, it will be a great success for Khabib as his mentor.
