Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns had one of the more exciting matches this year, and that was in the fourth month of this year. The victory on that occasion was won by Khamzat by a unanimous decision, although "Durniho" also gave an excellent performance.
It was definitely the toughest test of Khamzat's career so far in which Burns threw a check of 119 significant punches in those three rounds, while Khamzat threw 108. Regardless, on the judges' cards he was better and took the victory, and it seems that both sides interested in a rematch.
The UFC 283 event takes place in the first month in Brazil, and it would be almost unimaginable not to see Burns on that card. There was talk that he would fight Masvidal at that event, but nothing is official yet. Even if the fight with Masvidal definitely falls through, "Durinho" has already figured out how to entertain the home crowd.
Namely, after Pereira won the middleweight title, Chimaev immediately started calling out the Brazilian, but it is probably not that likely that we will actually watch that match. “If Alex not ready to be killed, let’s do it again in Brazil, 84 kg this time,” Chimaev said.
Burns was quick to respond to Chimaev on Twitter. “Any weight,” Burns said.
Back in July, Chimaev admitted to Ariel Helwani:
“Gilbert Burns was like one of the guys — his style is so hard for me to fight because he’s short, he’s grappler, you know? I’m wrestler, I’m boxer, but my boxing is going better when it’s guys that are taller like me, not short,” Chimaev said.
“But I took that fight, I won that fight, now I fight with that guy [Nate Diaz]”. “I hope one day I fight again with him,” Chimaev said. “I was a little bit stupid in that fight, just going forward, I didn’t work my footwork, I didn’t show my boxing skills”.
“No, my coach [wants me to watch that fight]. I don’t want to watch. I want to fight”. Whether this fight will actually happen again remains to be seen. The real situation is that Burns will probably look for an easier match for potentially more money, which in any case is Masvidal, but we believe that the fans would not object to seeing him and Chimaev again.
