Darren Till says Khamzat Chimaev would take down Alex Pereira "within 30 seconds"

Right after Alex Pereira defeated Israel Adesanya to claim the UFC lightweight crown, Khamzat Chimaev smelled a very good opportunity to win the title in that division. The undefeated Chechen-Swedish fighter as well as the entire MMA public noticed all the shortcomings of Alex Pereira when it comes to wrestling and ground skills.

Even Adesanya gave Pereira problems in that segment, and Chimaev, as the best wrestler on the entire roster, is stylistically a nightmare for Pereira. Chimaev threw himself into the name-calling very quickly, even though he is not even ranked within the middle category at the moment, and his last performance in that category was in 2020.

Chimaev is counting on the fact that he has already defeated most of Adesanya's other challengers, and a matchup between him and Pereira would certainly sell well and be marketing profitable for the UFC. However, there is little chance that Chimaev will get that opportunity.

Israel Adesanya will almost certainly get a chance to rematch Pereira, and Chimaev will need at least one win against a high-ranked middleweight fighter. However, if by any chance there is a fight between Pereira and Chimaev, Darren Till believes that Pereira will not have a good time.

A great friend of Khamzat Chimaev was a guest on Michael Bisping's podcast, and he didn't have much to say about the fight between Chimaev and Pereira.

According to Till, it's very clear what would happen.

“His wrestling is, you know, obviously, he’s young in the sport,” Till said of Pereira (7-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) in a recent interview with Michael Bisping (h/t BJPenn.com).

“I mean, I’ve seen that Khamzat called him out and I was like, oh my God, Khamzat will definitely take him down within 30 seconds. Okay, it’s a fight but, like that’s not a fight that Pereira is ready for”.

Many will say that Till is simply biased and unobjective because he is talking about his good friend, but if we remember how the match between Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev looked in the ninth month, Till's predictions actually make a lot of sense.

In the match against Pereira, Chimaev would start in the same way as he did against Holland, and the reality is that Alex Pereira really has big problems with that segment of MMA, but in his favor is the fact that the UFC has only paired him with fighters who prefer to fight in stands.
