Although more than four years have passed since the fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, and Khabib has since retired from professional sports, their rivalry and tensions are still constant. McGregor often likes to tease Nurmagomedov with various "tweets" to try to attract attention and provoke a reaction from Khabib, but this time Khabib was the one who started everything, and Conor's response did not take long.
Nurmagomedov was a guest at a public event in Toronto today and did a longer interview in front of fans. When talking about his team and his team's successes, Khabib used the famous statement of Conor McGregor. "I hear long time ago when one guy was talking about, 'We're here to take over.'
But we here to take over.", Khabib said.
Conor quickly responded via Twitter.
"I fight on! Your fathers plan is never complete because you quit and ran, brother. God bless. I’m still here if you wanna go again. But your fear of defeat means you’ve already lost.
Run from it all you want. We all lose in the end. Death takes us all. I fear nothing but God 🙏☘️'' said McGregor. It is obviously still very difficult for Conor to come to terms with the fact that Khabib dominated him from the first to the last second of the fight in 2018 and that he proved to be a much better fighter than him.
There is no doubt that the Irishman will try to call Khabib to come out of retirement several more times, but Nurmagomedov confirmed for the umpteenth time today in Toronto that a return is not an option. Conor should focus first and foremost on his return to the cage, as it is highly doubtful that we will ever witness it, despite the pompous announcements we have been hearing since the injury he suffered in the seventh month of last year.
