UFC offered Charles Oliveira an immediate rematch against Islam Makhachev in Brazil

Charles Oliveira had a very active and physically and mentally demanding period during the past year and a half. From the fifth month of 2021 until the 10th month of this year, "Do Bronx" fought four matches for the title, registered three victories, managed to lose the belt due to falling on the scale, and in the tenth month Islam Makhachev stopped his winning streak .

The Brazilian was on a streak of 11 consecutive victories, but Makhachev proved to be a significantly better fighter that evening in Abu Dhabi and celebrated with a "submission" in the second round. There is no doubt that Oliveira will recover and go for the title again, and he could allegedly get the chance for that as early as the first month of 2023.

Diego Lima, Charles Oliveira's trainer, claims that Oliveira had an offer from the UFC for a rematch against Makhachev, and the fight would take place on January 21st (1st month) in Rio de Janeiro.

Charles Oliveira rejected immediate rematch vs Islam Makhachev

"When we were going to face Makhachev.

we showed a lot of interest in fighting him in Rio. One week after [UFC 280], the UFC got in touch with us. They gave us the opportunity to fight [Makhachev] in Rio. They have always been really good to us. We have really good talks.

It was up to us to accept or not”, Lima told Bloody Elbow. It is known that Makhachev is waiting for the defense of the belt in the second month of next year. His opponent will be Alexander Volkanovski, and Lima revealed why Oliveira refused an instant rematch against Islam.

“I talked it over with Charles. He’s not injured, but there’s an emotional stress. It’s way beyond physical. Charles is the only fighter that has faced all the top 5 guys within a year. Champs normally hide, they want to fight once a year.

That’s not Charles, but Rio is way too close now. We prefer to give Charles a well-deserved vacation”. his coach added. It's hard to fault Oliveira. He deserved the rest and was really a great champion during that period while he held the belt. We will find out in the following period whether he will return it after the vacation.
