Khabib recently announced that he will completely retire from the sport of MMA, which would also mean that he is quitting the coaching job in which he was successful after his fighting career. He will no longer be involved with Eagle FC, and will no longer be involved in any MMA-related business.
Rizvan Magomedov, one of Nurmagomedov's closest business partners and friends, confirmed this information.
Magomedov said in his interview:
"I think he made it clear and it was such a balanced decision that he approached for a long time.
There is no need to look for any behind-the-scenes reasons or radical incidents there. He just came to this. He ended his career in 2020 but travels during training camps, during fights. Out of 12 months, he is 10 absent from home, constantly on these trips.
And he came to such a decision that it was time to spend time with his family, devote time to children. And, most likely, he will miss this fight, yes." said Rizvan. That news shocked his fans, but it turned out to be true.
Immediately after that, the question began to arise as to whether he would be in Islam Makhachev's corner in the most important fight in his career so far, but it seems that the answer to that is negative, as confirmed by Makhachev himself: “When the cage door close, no one is there for you,” Makhachev said, reports MMAFighting.
“Of course, it’s going to be different but I’ve already fought without him a couple of times. And he cannot always be with me. Of course, it’s very good when he is here. I always like when he is with me because he knows all the games being played.
He knows what you need for the fight, for the weight cut, you don’t have to worry about any of this. It’s always good when you have someone as experienced as him. You don’t have to spend your energy thinking about other things.
But I understand that he has to spend more time with his family. Because with all the fighting, the training, his family miss him too. Even though he is retired he’s still traveling a lot. That’s why I understand”.
Makhachev and Volkanovski are leading the next PPV event according to the schedule, and next month we will see if Khabib's departure will affect Makhachev. Volkanovski told him that he hoped that he would not use this as an excuse, but that the best ever would appear.
