Khamzat chimaev is ready to make his return to the UFC octagon and has many potential matchups lined up. He is really interested in fighting for the UFC welterweight belt, and the defending champion Leon Edwards will have to face Chimaev at some point in his career, and this year could be it.
The Swedish fighter fights explosively and definitely deserves a title shot. Interestingly, Leon Edwards vs Khamzat Chimaev was first scheduled in December 2020, but it was canceled because Chimaev was contracted with COVID-19.
However, on the brighter note, chances for the two fighters to square off in the ring this year are very high. A few months ago, Michael Bisping uploaded a youtube video where he interviewed Leon Edwards and asked him about Khamzat Chimaev.
Leon Edwards on fighting Khamzat Chimaev
"Yeah, and there's another fighter out there that you have accepted, I think on two occasions, Khamzat Chimaev; he's the guy everyone's talking about because everyone else is ducking him like crazy, so you have accepted him three times what do you make of Khamzat because obviously, he's on the tip of everyone's tongue these days?" said Bisping while interviewing Leon Edwards.
"He's a good fighter, you know. I don't think he's what the UFC was building him to be, like this untouchable monster. I think he's a solid fighter; he is good, you know, but there's always ways to beat these guys, you know, and this is why I am on like a 10-11 win streak.
I am not this guy that will scrap with you. I know how to fight like I said, he's one on my list as well that I wanna take out, you know, so let him go make weight, probably fight Colby or someone like that and then we can run that one." Said Edwards; Fans can definitely expect Leon Edwards vs Khamzat chimaev, but first, the Swedish fighter has to face someone else to capture the defending champion's attention.

"I'm ready to fight with that guy (Edwards). I want to fight that guy," said Chimaev to Ariel Helwani, as quoted by thenationalnews.com. "We'll see what's going to happen. But I'm ready.I hope in July, but I don't think he'll be ready.
He fought [on Sunday] and he's the kind of guy who says, 'I'll fight one time or two times in every year' He doesn't like to fight too much”. "July, I'm going to fight maybe somebody here in Sweden, 185lbs maybe. October will be a big show in Abu Dhabi - it's like, for me, home country.
I like that place. Feels good there. He fought last time in his home country, now it's time to come to someone else's country. Come to me, try to defend the belt." (Image source: MMAJUNKIE)
