Alexander Volkanovski has emerged victoriously thrice against the same opponent, and it is none other than the top featherweight contender Max Holloway. After the successive defeats, Holloway wouldn’t be looking forward to a 4th match either; however, anything can happen in the fight world, so it would be fair to expect the unexpected.
After the bitter loss against Islam Makhachev, the featherweight champion is set to defend his belt against Yair Rodriguez on the 8th of July. It will be very interesting to see if Rodriguez can snatch away everything from Alexander Volkanovski.
Alexander Volkanovski’s thoughts on a quadrilogy
Recently on the MMA Fan Podcast, Alexander Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion, spoke about having the 4th match with Max Holloway, the opponent against whom he had the most matches.
He does not entirely dismiss the idea, but as an obvious response, he highlights how it’s not a very sensible thing to do. “It’s a hard fight to sell,” Volkanovski said, as quoted by mmamania.com. “Three fights, you know, three wins with a guy and then doing a fourth one, and then what if he does win? What are you going to do? We’re going to have to go another two times? Obviously, that wouldn’t happen.
I definitely believed and proved I’ve got his number. He further said. “How do you sell it?” he further said. “I mean, never say never, but like I said, I want fights that are going to excite me. Honestly, right now, I need to see more maybe, maybe it would be different, but yeah, that doesn’t sound very exciting.
It’s not very fun to talk about”. Max Holloway needs to secure comprehensive victories on many more occasions to grab the attention of the featherweight champion for the 4th time, Holloway recently won against a tough featherweight contender Arnold Allen, and he should appear one more time in the cage before the end of 2023.
