The UFC 289 co-main event was absolutely electrifying; Charles Oliveira was successful in claiming one more early finish; he left Beneil Dariush absolutely clueless and knocked him out in the very first round; with this recent win, he put a full top to Dariush’s terrific winning streak.

The bitter taste of defeat is going to haunt Beneil Dariush for a long time, mainly because he was really looking forward to getting a title shot, and this loss has significantly minimized his chances of getting one. Charles Oliveira will most likely compete against Islam Makhachev next, and if that happens, it will be marked as one of the most intense rematches in the history of the sport.

Charles Oliveira’s thoughts for his next match

In the post-fight press conference, the former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira spoke about fighting Islam Makhachev next; he isn’t too worried about it and expects to just be himself in a potential rematch.

“Look, who’s got the belt?” Oliveira said, as quoted by “He’s got the belt, and I want to be a champion, so I have to go through him. Of course, I want to fight him. But right now, I don’t want to worry about it.

I want to go back to my family back home, relax a little bit, and let my team decide that”. Oliveira on how he will fight in a rematch: “Nothing. I would do nothing (different), just simply be Charles”. If the UFC and matchmakers refuse to book the rematch between Oliveira and Makhachev, it would be fair to assume that he will fight against either Justin Gaethje or Dustin Poirier next.

Charles Oliveira’s last five matches were done within three rounds; there is something about him that leads every match to an early finish. The former lightweight champion seems to be very hungry for the belt that was snatched away from him, and he most likely will fight against Islam Makhachev this year in October. Will he be successful in reclaiming what he fought so hard for? We will soon find out.
