The former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is expected to fight against Islam Makhachev as the next title challenger, but he recently revealed that the month of October is too soon for him to make his return and would prefer fighting in November or December.

Islam Makhachev is supposed to show up at the UFC 294 event, which is going to take place in Abu Dhabi; it will be interesting to see how Makhachev responds to this sudden twist. If Charles Oliveira does not show up in October, Alexander Volkanovski could replace him next.

Charles Oliveira faced Beneil Dariush last; he absolutely embarrassed him in the very first round and proved the majority of the people wrong that didn’t expect him to win. Oliveira is just a step away from reclaiming everything that he lost.

Charles Oliveira on his return

In a recent interview with TSN, Charles Oliveira speaks about his match with Islam Makhachev and reveals that fighting in October would be too soon for him. Oliveira is confident that he will be the lightweight champion again.

“So I’m going to be honest with you, we don’t have nothing yet,” Oliveira said, as quoted by

“They are still waiting but to be honest October, it’s too soon for me. It’s too soon, especially if the fight’s going to be [in Abu Dhabi]. “I’m really going to be ready in November/December but October is too soon".

Oliveira further said: “So I’ll be honest with you, I just need to wait, I’m a UFC employee so I just need to wait. For me, it doesn’t matter. “I want to be the champ again and I will be the champ again, so now I just need to wait.

I just need to wait and see what they’re going to do. I can tell you I’m going to be the champ again, it’s just a matter of when”.
