A leg kick to the neck is all it took Justin Gaethje to get redemption and put Dustin Poirier to sleep; Gaethje successfully knocked Poirier out in the second round and is now the new owner of the BMF belt. The first round was pretty explosive; both fighters exchanged great shots and took in damage, and as soon as the second round started, almost within the blink of an eye, Poirier was flat on the canvas, and Gaethje celebrated the win with a back flip.

Justin Gaethje has also moved up in rankings from being 3rd to now being the 2nd ranked lightweight contender.

Gaethje was never really thrilled about the BMF title; he wants something real and honourable; when asked what he wants next, he didn’t hesitate one bit in addressing that he wants the title shot to prove that he's the best in the world.

Justin Gaethje’s Octagon interview

Justin Gaethje seemed to be pretty pleased by the win, and we all got to see a different version of him compared to his first encounter with Dustin Poirier. Here’s what he had to say after winning the match: “Unlike any other sport on Earth, you rarely get a chance at redemption,” Gaethje said, as quoted by mmafighting.com.

“We take a loss, we just have to go home and sit with it and it eats us away and we usually never get that chance. So to come back, to prove myself and I believed in myself the whole time I told Dustin he’s my favorite fighter on Earth.

Luck and chance are a factor in this cage and I just thank god I came out on the right side this time. Gaethje on what’s next: “If you watch that [first] fight compared to this fight, it’s night and day.

It was a tough lesson to learn but that man taught me that lesson and I think god for him. You know what I want to do next, I want to fight for the world championship. These guys are fighting in October. I’m going to prove I’m the best in the world”.
