The flyweight clash between Manon Fiorot and Rose Namajunas was aggressive; after 3 rounds of action, the judges declared Manon Fiorot the winner by unanimous decision. Namajunas broke her hand in the very first round yet chose to persevere.

Her flyweight debut didn’t go well, but she showed toughness. Fiorot believes the women’s flyweight division isn’t the ideal place for Rose Namajunas. Namajunas is on a 2 match losing streak; she could go back to fighting at strawweight or perhaps continue at flyweight.

With this recent win, Fiorot has opened doors of new opportunity and has placed herself one step closer to getting a title shot. Fiorot could probably fight the top flyweight contender, Erin Blanchfield, next and if she secures a win against Blanchfield, she will definitely get the chance to fight for the precious UFC women’s flyweight belt.

Manon Fiorot on what’s next

During the post fight press conference, Manon Fiorot spoke about Rose Namajunas’s performance and declared that she is ready to fight Erin Blanchfield next. “I think she’s lacking a bit of power in this weight class,” Fiorot said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com.

“I don’t know what she’s going to do after, if she’s going to stay there or go back, but I don’t think it’s her weight class. I knew I was a better striker, so I was pretty sure she wanted to wrestle me, but it was impossible to take me down”.

Fiorot further said:To me, I clearly deserve the title shot, I don’t see why I’d fight Erin. But if I have to, and I don’t have a choice, for sure it’s going to be an easy fight for me”.

Erin Blanchfield is undefeated in the UFC; it will be interesting to see if Manon Fiorot has what it takes to derail her progress and continue moving forward to the title fight.
