Tony Ferguson is stuck in a daunting 6 match losing streak and is giving his all to break out of it. He chose the path of mental mastery and is being trained by David Goggins. Tony Ferguson is going to fight Paddy Pimblett on 16th December; all eyes will be on Ferguson.

Daniel Cormier believes mental toughness won’t play a significant role in pulling Tony Ferguson out of the losing streak.

Moreover, Cormier is concerned about David Goggins over-training Tony Ferguson.

It would be a crime to say that mental toughness plays no role in deciding the outcome of fights. Ferguson is being reborn, and the extreme training routine that he is following will get him extreme results. Ferguson already has the skills, and by callousing his mind, he will surpass all boundaries.

Daniel Cormier on Tony Ferguson’s training sessions

In a recent YouTube video, Daniel Cormier shared his thoughts on Tony Ferguson's training with David Goggins and explained why he thinks it could be disadvantageous for Ferguson.

“I tap in on making sure you leave no stone unturned,” Cormier said as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com. “Great call by the former interim champion. He wants to try and see if it’s going to change something for him.

He’s going to be in shape, but I don’t know if the cardio is going to be the issue. That’s not what’s wrong with Tony Ferguson. “It’s not that he’s not preparing himself right. It’s just other things, other reasons why he’s losing, and I don’t know if David Goggins is going to be able to change that.

Cormier further said: The weathering and the beatings that you take in that octagon can’t be fixed just by mental approach and working harder in the gym. It just takes something a little bit more. Also, I worry Goggins works so hard he don’t care how you’re feeling. He’s going to make you work. I hope he doesn’t beat Tony down and overtrain him”.
