The UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is hoping to make a return in June. He wants to defend his belt against Dustin Poirier, who recently secured a classy 2nd round knockout win against Benoit Saint-Denis. Fans and MMA experts were under the impression of seeing the winner of Charles Oliveira vs Arman Tsarukyan fight Islam Makhachev next.

But since Makhachev aims to make a return in June, he wants to fight someone who’s free. Dustin Poirier will be more than happy to accept that fight, since he recently mentioned how he looks forward to claiming the 3rd title shot of his career.

“Everybody [is] busy, but I want to fight, you know? I want to fight three times in the year, that’s why I just have to call out someone, and Poirier is free now. He beat a lot of top guys, he’s a legend, and a fight with him is going to be good for me for the history, for everything, you know? He’s a legend, he beat a lot of top guys, and he’s a tough opponent too.

He have a good guillotine”.
