Eileen Gu is a real surprise of the Winter Olympics. Born in the United States, she decided to perform for China, the place where her mother was born. Already on her debut at the Olympics, Gu made three podiums “The opportunity to inspire millions of young people where my mom was born, during the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help to promote the sport I love,” Eileen Gu wrote on Instagram “Through skiing, I hope to unite people, promote common understanding, create communication, and forge friendships between nations.
"If I can help inspire a young girl to break a boundary, my wishes will have come true”.
Gu and her book
Gu, she says, had a different way of growing up and she wants to turn that growing up into a book that could be interesting to many.
“I’m writing a book," she said in her final press conference at Beijing 2022, as quoted by olympics "I've been writing diaries for years because I knew that the way I grew up was different, interesting and special, I’d like to share it with everyone in the future," she said.
As she herself said, Eileen had a specific way of growing up, because her mother came from China and was with her grandmother, the main person in Eileen's life. What is very nice and funny is the fact that Eileen's grandmother is still skeptical about sports, because she wanted her granddaughter to be a doctor or a lawyer.
"She thinks I'm doing it for fun," Gu said "She's going to be unfazed and unimpressed, I think." Eileen has made it clear that she loves her grandmother, and it seems that she will be her main support "She'll want me to win for sure; she's very competitive.
More than anything, she'll be like, 'Why's everyone crowded around you? What's the big deal?'" Gu said, according to news agency AFP.
