WWE fans went crazy with anger after Friday Night SmackDown and the choice of Wrestling Entertainment, which decided that it will not be Cody Rhodes who will challenge Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40, but rather The Rock.

Perhaps WWE has indeed managed to divert attention from the problems with Vince McMahon in a certain sense, but they have done so in the most negative way possible given all the angry fans who have been vigorously protesting on social media for several hours.

WWE justifies the choice for WrestleMania

Dave Meltzer tried to justify this choice and, in his Wrestling Observer, analyzed:

"The Rock pushed hard for this. The WrestleMania 40 card changed when CM Punk and Brock Lesnar were excluded and there was a domino effect. Dwayne already wanted him. WWE felt they needed him. They felt like this was it. best thing to deflect from the news flow about Vince McMahon.

Cody was the plan. Dwayne would face Roman Reigns later, maybe next year at Mania, maybe in Saudi Arabia. The Vince thing eventually got worse than it was they thought and changed the plan. 100% it was Punk vs Seth and Cody vs Reigns until Punk got hurt."

Mike Johnson of PWInsider also echoed the well-known journalist, revealing: "While WWE had cleverly constructed a rematch of Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns, some sources believe that the change was made by Johnson, with a source who declared, to save Wrestlemania after CM Punk and Brock Lesnar, for very different reasons, were removed from the plans of the biggest weekend of the year."

Moral of the story: the ending of the last episode of Friday Night SmackDown left a bad taste in the mouths of WWE fans, who soon realized that it would not be Cody Rhodes who would challenge Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania.
