Apple is an American multinational company founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in Los Altos, Silicon Valley, California, which produces operating systems, smartphones, computers and multimedia devices, headquartered in Cupertino, California. It is considered one of the Big Tech technology companies, along with Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Meta. The company was founded to develop and sell Wozniak's Apple I personal computer, although Wayne sold his share within the next twelve days.
Apple hardware products include: Macintosh computers, the iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch lines of portable devices, Apple TV media centers, and AirPods, HomePod and iPod touch audio devices. At the Macworld Conference & Expo in January 2007, Steve Jobs unveiled the company's first smart cell phone, iPhone running the iOS operating system, derived from macOS. Its introduction raised criticism and doubts, but in retrospect the iPhone is universally considered a product that revolutionized and profoundly changed the telephony sector.
