Netflix is a US streaming distribution of films, series, anime and docu-series. It began as a DVD and video game rental company, although Hastings put sales aside about a year later. Users could reserve discs via the Internet and have them delivered directly to their home via the postal service. Since 2008, the company has activated an on-demand online streaming service, accessible via a specific subscription, which soon became its main business. Since 2011 the disc rental service has been spun off and is offered by the subsidiary Qwikster. Netflix entered the production business in 2013, introducing its first series, House of Cards.

It has since significantly expanded its production of films and TV series, offering Netflix original content. It produced approximately 126 series and feature films in 2016, more than any other network or cable channel. It was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph on August 29, 1997 in Scotts Valley, California. In 2014, Netflix expanded film and television production and online distribution. Its headquarters is in Los Gatos, California. However, Netflix has several other offices around the world located in Brazil, India, Japan, South Korea, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy respectively.
