Alexander Volkanovski

Alexander Volkanovski is an Australian mixed martial artist originally from North Macedonia. He fights in the featherweight category for the US organization UFC, of which he is the current undisputed champion after defeating Max Holloway at UFC 245.

In the past he also played in the promotions Roshambo MMA, Australian Fighting Championship, Pacific Xtreme Combat and Wollongong Wars . He holds the top spot in the UFC men's pound for pound rankings, alongside Jon Jones.

He made his debut in 2012 in the welterweight category. Over the next four years he fought for various promotions around Oceania and Asia, capturing the Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) and Australian Fighting Championship (AFC) featherweight titles, among others.

After the dominant victory against Max Holloway, Volkanovski earns the first place in the UFC men's pound for pound rankings, and decides to move up a weight class to also conquer the lightweight belt, held by Russian fighter Islam Machachev.

The match was made official on November 12, 2022, and set for February 12, 2023 in Perth, Australia. Volkanovski loses by unanimous decision after a close bout, and gives the lead pound for pound to the challenger, before returning to defend his featherweight belt. On July 8 at UFC 290 Volkanovski faces Mexican fighter Yair Rodriguez, defeating him by TKO in the third round, and defending the belt for the fifth time.
