Canada is a state in North America that faces the Atlantic to the east, the Arctic Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west. With a surface area of 9985,000 km² it is the second largest country in the world in terms of total surface area after Russia. It was inhabited, before the European arrival on the continent, by indigenous populations. Canada is a member state of the British Commonwealth, of which it is one of the fifteen realms: consequently, although independent, its head of state is the sovereign of the United Kingdom, as of 2023 King Charles III. In Canada, several native and European languages are spoken, but the official ones are French and English.

Canada's nominal GDP is the ninth largest in the world: it is mainly based on its vast natural resources and its well-developed trade networks, especially with the United States, with which Canada has long-standing complex relationships. Canada is one of the most advanced countries in the world with the twentieth GDP per capita and the sixteenth human development index. Canada has been part of the UN since its first general assembly in 1945 and, as a middle power, is a member of numerous international military, political and commercial bodies such as the G7, the G20, NATO, NAFTA, the OECD, the WTO, OAC, APEC.
